This unusual and well-maintained semi-carbine style rimfire SMLE has been prepared for target shooting rather than for use as a pure training rifle.

It is fitted with the extremely rare Hiscock-Parker 5-round magazine (note that this was the name used by the Parker gunsmithing company - it is incorrect to call it a Parker-Hiscock magazine). The magazine was first introduced for use with the Lee-Enfield Rifles RF Short Mks.1 and 2, themselves shortened versions of the obsolete Long-Lee rifles which were modified to represent the then newly issued "Short" rifle. The previous link offers further detail of the magazine, which can also be seen in use with an earlier "Long" Lee-Enfield .22 training rifle.

The target-style rear-sight is the Model 10A introduced by the Canadian Cooey company in 1927. The sight was designed to permit use of the SMLE (Rifle, Short, Magazine Lee-Enfield) to represent the aperture-sighted Pattern '14 (Enfield Rifle No.3) in training.

The barrel's tangent-leaf rear-sight remains in place, but has been changed for one with windage adjustment. The calibration remains the same as that of the issue .303" calibre service rifle.

The rifle has a period target shooting hooked two-point sling fitted to sling-eyes mounted on the forward barrel-band sling-swivel position and on a modified trigger-guard mounting screw.

The rifle's barrel has been reduced in length to 20.25 inches, bringing the nose-cap approximately 4 inches closer to the barrel-band.

The image can be zoomed and panned to see greater detail.

The bottom image shows a standard full-length No.2 Mk.IV* .22RF training SMLE rifle for comparison.
