The rifle is a 1915 BSA manufactured Lee-Enfield No.1 Mk.III* that evidently found its way to South Africa.
It returned to the U.K. with an additional A.G. Parker target rear-sight, a Model 5A, suggesting that the rifle may latterly have been used for competitive target shooting. Both the rifle and the sight are stamped with the South African military mark of a "U" with a fine Broad Arrow within the character's uprights.
