The entire 74 page catalogue of Sights for both Rifles & Shotguns.
Founded by William Lyman in 1878 with the introduction of his No.1 tang sight,
the Lyman Gun Sight Corporation was then, and is still, in Connecticut, although in 1920 it was based in Middlefield. In 1995 a move a few miles North East was announced to a position adjacent to the Connecticut River at Middletown.
The comprehensive catalogue opens with a short history of the rear aperture sight.
Other contents include a number of contemporary testimonials for Lyman products, the fitment and usage of the plethora of rear and fore-sights, a price list, further listings and pictures of the makes and models of rifles for which sights were available, a short article by William on "the Sport of Rifle Shooting"; the maintenance and care of the "modern" rifle and, finally, for the boatmen and punt-gunners amongst our readers, the Lyman "Bow-facing Rowing Gear". This was a particularly unusual piece of design, allowing an oarsman to face in his direction of travel. We are not aware that it ever caught on, presumably not as efficient - or over-complicated - compared with the normal method, but the principle was excellent.
